Herpesviridae is a large family of viruses that cause diseases in animals, including humans. This family includes well-known viruses such as herpes simplex virus (HSV), which causes cold sores and genital herpes, and varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which causes chickenpox and shingles. These viruses are characterized by their ability to establish lifelong latent infections in the host.
