learn Ketoconazole
Antifungal, best known as a dandruff shampoo
- Does ketoconazole really help with hair loss? Ketoconazole 2% shampoo may give a modest benefit in pattern hair loss, based on a few small studies; how it might work is unproven and it is not approved for hair loss. Oral ketoconazole tablets are not a hair-loss treatment.
- Ketoconazole: Is it safe to use every day or can it damage my hair? Ketoconazole shampoo labels describe intermittent use (the US 1% label says every 3–4 days), and no published trial has tested daily use for hair loss. The labels list dryness and irritation among reported side effects.
- Ketoconazole: Does it work better if I leave it on my scalp longer? No study shows that leaving ketoconazole shampoo on longer than the label says works better, and longer contact may increase irritation. Follow the label: the US 2% label says leave it on for 5 minutes, then rinse.
