    Basal keratinocytes are the cells located in the lowest layer of the epidermis, which is the outermost layer of the skin. These cells are responsible for producing keratin, a protein that helps protect the skin and underlying tissues. They also play a crucial role in skin regeneration by continuously dividing and pushing older cells towards the surface, where they eventually shed.
