TLDR Yiqi Huayu medicine can effectively reduce BPH in rats by lowering MMP-2 levels and blood vessel growth.
The study investigated the effects of Yiqi Huayu Chinese medicine on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in rats, focusing on the expression of MMP-2 and TIMP-2. Fifty SD rats were used, and after 30 days of treatment with Yiqi Huayu or finasteride, results showed that the prostate index (PI), microvessel density (MVD), and MMP-2 levels were significantly lower in the treatment groups compared to the model group. The Yiqi Huayu treatment was as effective as finasteride in reducing these levels, with a notably lower MVD compared to the finasteride group. The study concluded that Yiqi Huayu could inhibit BPH, potentially by restraining MMP-2 levels and renewing blood vessels.
