Studysummary This study found that Zhuangyao Jianshen pill significantly improved prostate health in testosterone-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia in castrated rats by modulating sex hormones and reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
The study investigated the effects of Zhuangyao Jianshen pill (ZYJSP) on testosterone-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in 48 male Sprague-Dawley rats. The results showed that ZYJSP significantly reduced prostate wet weight and prostate index, improved histological changes, and restored hormone balance disrupted by testosterone propionate. ZYJSP also demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties by decreasing levels of interleukin-6, interleukin-8, and malondialdehyde, while increasing superoxide dismutase activity. These findings suggest that ZYJSP effectively ameliorates BPH in rats by regulating sex hormones, reducing oxidative stress, and inhibiting inflammation.
