TLDR α-spinasterol from Melandrium firmum can help reduce prostate enlargement.
The study investigated the effects of α-spinasterol from Melandrium firmum on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in a rat model. Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups of eight, with treatments administered orally before testosterone propionate (TP) injections. Results showed that TP significantly increased prostate size and levels of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). However, α-spinasterol treatment significantly inhibited these increases and suppressed TP-induced prostatic hyperplasia, suggesting that α-spinasterol could be beneficial in managing BPH.
