TLDR Walnut extract may help lower cholesterol and inflammation.
The study investigates the effects of walnut fruit diaphragm ethanol extract (E-WFD) on hyperlipidemia induced by Triton WR-1339 in Wistar rats. The experiment involved 5 groups, including a healthy control and various treatment groups, each with 6 rats. E-WFD demonstrated lipid-lowering effects by reducing total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) while increasing HDL-C levels. It also exhibited antioxidant potential by altering oxidative stress markers (MDA, SOD, CAT) and improved histopathological conditions in tissues. Furthermore, E-WFD significantly inhibited the expression of inflammatory biomarker genes (Tnf-α, Il-6, Il-1β, Mmp-2, Mmp-9, Lxr-α, Srebp-1c). These findings suggest that E-WFD could be a valuable alternative in treating hyperlipidemia, with potential applications in pharmacology, food, and cosmetics.
