TLDR Low doses of date palm extract improve kidney function, but high doses can harm it.
The study investigated the effects of methanol extract of date palm fruit on kidney functions in adult Wistar rats. Twenty rats were divided into four groups, with three groups receiving 4, 8, and 16 mg/kg doses of the extract, while the control group received distilled water. Results showed that doses of 4 and 8 mg/kg improved kidney function due to the antioxidant properties of the extract. However, a higher dose of 16 mg/kg significantly increased potassium and serum urea levels, indicating potential impairment of renal function. The study concluded that while lower doses of the extract were beneficial, higher doses could be harmful to kidney health.
