TLDR Low doses of date palm extract improve kidney function, but high doses may harm it.
The study assessed the effects of methanol extract of Phoenix dactilifera (date palm) on kidney functions in 20 adult Wistar rats. The extract was administered in doses of 4 mg/kg, 8 mg/kg, and 16 mg/kg. Results indicated that kidney function improved at 4 and 8 mg/kg doses due to the antioxidant properties of the extract. However, a higher dose of 16 mg/kg significantly increased potassium and serum urea levels, suggesting potential impairment of renal function at this dosage. The study concluded that while lower doses were beneficial, higher doses might be harmful to kidney health.
