TLDR Vitamin D protects skin cells from damage caused by captopril.
The study demonstrated that captopril, an antihypertensive drug, induced cell detachment and apoptosis in human keratinocytes. Using HaCaT keratinocytes as a model, researchers observed that cells exposed to captopril became round and detached, leading to programmed cell death. However, pretreatment with calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D, significantly reduced these harmful effects, even at low concentrations (1 nmol/L). The findings indicated that calcitriol could protect keratinocytes from the damaging effects of captopril.
