TLDR Pondoh salak fruit peel extract is effective in shampoo and has strong antimicrobial properties.
The study investigated the use of ethanol extract from Pondoh salak fruit peel (Salacca edulis Reinw) to create a shampoo and tested its stability and antimicrobial activity. The shampoo formulations (0%, 10%, 15%, 20% extract) were stable over 12 days and met SNI requirements despite some changes in pH, foam power, and viscosity. The 10% extract formulation showed the highest inhibition against Staphylococcus epidermidis (32.93 mm) and Candida albicans (24.61 mm), indicating very strong antimicrobial activity. The results suggest that Pondoh salak fruit peel extract is effective in shampoo formulations and has significant antimicrobial properties.
