TLDR Biotin supplements significantly improved a young girl's uncombable hair.
Uncombable hair syndrome (UHS) is a rare disorder that presents in early childhood with blonde, dry, and frizzy scalp hair that is difficult to style. A case study of a 3-year-old girl with UHS showed significant improvement in hair combability and growth rate after two cycles of treatment with oral biotin supplementation, each separated by a period of 3 years. Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is a water-soluble vitamin that serves as a cofactor in several carboxylase reactions, making it an essential component in multiple metabolic pathways. However, high serum concentration of biotin can interfere with laboratory test results based on biotin-streptavidin technology. The prognosis of UHS is generally good, with improvement often occurring during puberty.
