TLDR The trichogram is a practical, non-invasive, and cost-effective tool for diagnosing female androgenetic alopecia.
This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of the trichogram compared to scalp biopsy in 49 women with suspected female androgenetic alopecia (FAGA). The trichogram's sensitivity improved significantly when intermediate hairs were included in the analysis, reaching 96%, and when using the relative diameter method, achieving 77.6%. These findings suggest that the trichogram, with these adaptations, is a practical, non-invasive, and cost-effective diagnostic tool that correlates well with histopathology, making it useful in clinical practice for assessing FAGA.
