TLDR Trichoscopy is effective for diagnosing and monitoring female pattern hair loss.
The study examined female androgenetic alopecia (FAGA) in 50 women compared to 50 controls, focusing on clinical and trichoscopic features. It found that FAGA was characterized by central scalp thinning with an intact frontal hairline, and its incidence increased with age. Trichoscopy revealed significant differences between FAGA cases and controls, such as more yellow dots and thinner hair in affected areas. The severity of FAGA, measured by the Sinclair scale, correlated with increased yellow dots and decreased hair thickness. The study concluded that trichoscopy effectively diagnosed and monitored FAGA, potentially reducing the need for invasive procedures like scalp biopsies. However, it acknowledged the limitation of a small sample size and suggested further research for validation.
