TLDR Tribulus terrestris extract significantly increases MSH expression and melanin production in mouse hair follicles.
The study investigated the effect of Tribulus terrestris extract on melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) expression in C57BL/6J mouse hair follicles. Mice treated with the extract showed a 75% positivity rate of MSH expression in hair follicle melanocytes, compared to only 18.75% in the control group, indicating a significant increase (P<0.01). The extract was found to activate tyrosinase activity, promote melanocyte proliferation, melanin synthesis, and the epidermal migration of dormant melanocytes.
