TLDR Quercetin boosts melanin production in mouse hair follicles.
The study investigated the effects of quercetin on melanin production in hair follicle tissues from C3H/HeN Jel mice. It was found that quercetin increased melanin synthesis in these tissues, with the effect being concentration-dependent. The study observed a significant enhancement in the expression of tyrosinase protein and tyrosinase-related protein-2 (TRP-2) with increased quercetin concentration, although their mRNA expressions remained unchanged. This indicated that quercetin stimulated the synthesis of these proteins, thereby enhancing melanin production in the hair follicles of the mice.
