TLDR More research is needed to make sperm DNA fragmentation a reliable tool for diagnosing male infertility.
Baskaran et al. conducted a scientometric analysis using data from Scopus to track research trends in sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) testing, a significant area in andrology and assisted reproduction. Over the past 20 years, there was a notable increase in SDF research, characterized by global, multi-institutional, and multinational collaborations. Initially focused on mechanistic studies, recent research trends shifted towards prognostic and diagnostic studies, highlighting the growing clinical interest in SDF testing. The study suggested that developing clinical practice guidelines for SDF was necessary and identified potential areas for future research.
