Transdermal Permeation of Tetracaine Hydrochloride by Lecithin Microemulsion: In Vivo

Mohammad Changez, Jagdish Chander, Amit Kumar Dinda
TLDR Lecithin microemulsion safely delivers tetracaine hydrochloride through the skin.
The study demonstrated that using lecithin-based microemulsions significantly increased the local analgesic response of tetracaine hydrochloride when applied transdermally. Both water-in-oil and oil-in-water microemulsions were effective, with the analgesic response depending on the microemulsion composition. The lecithin/n-propanol/isopropyl myristate/water microemulsion was found to be a safe carrier for transdermal drug delivery, as confirmed by histopathological, irritancy, and biochemical tests on mice.
