TLDR The new formulation improved the skin absorption of the drug Thiocolchicoside.
The study from 2014 aimed to enhance the bioavailability of Thiocolchicoside (TCC), a drug used for orthopedic, traumatic, and rheumatologic disorders, by developing a nanoemulsion (NE) for transdermal delivery. The NE was formulated using a combination of Linseed: sefsol oil, span 80, Transcutol P, and water. The optimized NE had a small average globule diameter of 117 nm and showed a significant increase in skin permeability parameters compared to an aqueous solution of TCC. The steady-state flux and permeability coefficient of the optimized NE were 30.63 ± 4.18 µg/cm2/h and 15.21 × 10−3 ± 2.81 cm2/h, respectively. The results indicated that the NEs could effectively transport TCC through the skin, potentially via the transfollicular route, making them promising carriers for TCC transdermal delivery.
