TLDR Ablative fractional laser treatment rejuvenates aged skin by activating genes related to wound healing and tissue regeneration.
The study investigated the effects of ablative fractional laser treatment on skin rejuvenation by analyzing gene expression changes in skin biopsies from 14 women. Significant changes in gene expression were observed as early as 1 day post-treatment, with effects persisting for up to 1 month. The treatment influenced inflammatory, epidermal, and dermal genes, particularly those related to extracellular matrix formation. Fractional laser treatment was found to reverse many age-related gene expression changes, and multiple treatments led to continued gene expression changes, suggesting that optimal skin rejuvenation requires multiple sessions. Overall, the treatment activated biological processes related to wound healing and tissue regeneration, contributing to its rejuvenating effects on aged skin.
