TLDR Applying thyroid hormone T3 speeds up wound healing in mice.
The study investigated the effects of topical application of supraphysiologic doses of T3 on wound healing in mice. Mice with 10-mm diameter dorsal skin wounds were treated with 150 ng of T3 daily, resulting in 58% greater wound closure compared to when the same mice received a vehicle alone. The study also found that T3 treatment increased keratin 6 protein expression in hair follicle keratinocytes in a dose-dependent manner. These findings suggested that T3 played a significant role in enhancing wound healing and could potentially be used as an inexpensive treatment to accelerate the healing of certain wounds.
