TLDR The new adhesive nanoparticles are effective for delivering Minoxidil to the scalp without skin irritation.
The research paper presents the development of thiolated cyclodextrin-based nanoparticles for the topical delivery of Minoxidil, a drug used for treating hair loss. The nanoparticles were prepared with thiolated β-cyclodextrin (β-CDs) and Minoxidil. The thiolated β-CDs showed 1804.68 ± 25 μmol/g thiol groups and 902.34 ± 25 μmol/g disulfide bonds. The nanoparticles had sizes ranging from 231 ± 07 nm to 354 ± 13 nm and a zeta potential between −8.1 ± 02 mV and +16.0 ± 05 mV. The nanoparticles adhered well to human hair and improved drug retention. The study concluded that these nanoparticles could be a potential drug delivery system for topical scalp diseases.
