TLDR G-1 promotes hair growth in female mice by activating specific signaling pathways.
The study explores the role of the GPR30 receptor in hair growth, particularly its potential as a therapeutic target for estrogen-mediated hair loss disorders. Using Gpr30-deficient mice and human dermal papilla cells, researchers found that the GPR30 agonist G-1 significantly promotes hair growth by upregulating Wnt/Hedgehog signaling pathways, essential for hair follicle activity. The effects were absent in Gpr30-deficient mice, indicating the crucial role of GPR30 in hair growth regulation. The study involved 7 female mice and showed that G-1 treatment increased hair growth-related gene expression in wild-type female mice, but not in Gpr30-deficient or male mice, suggesting a sex-specific efficacy. These findings propose GPR30 and its agonists as promising targets for treating hair loss and other estrogen-responsive conditions, with potential for combination with existing treatments like minoxidil.
