TLDR Telogen effluvium is a form of hair loss caused by various factors and requires identifying the cause for proper treatment.
Telogen effluvium is a condition characterized by the premature shedding of hair in the telogen phase, caused by trauma to normal hair due to stimuli that accelerate the transition from the anagen to the catagen and telogen phases. The incidence or prevalence of telogen effluvium is unclear. It can occur in both men and women and can be caused by various factors, including psychological stress, acute fever, malnutrition, pregnancy, systemic diseases, and medication. Diagnosis of telogen effluvium can be established through anamnesis, physical examination, and supporting examinations. Proper management requires time to identify the cause of hair loss and its treatment. The most important aspect is providing information and education to patients about the course of their disease.
