TLDR Taurine helps protect and promote hair growth.
The study investigated the effects of taurine on human hair follicles grown in vitro. Taurine, a β-amino acid, was shown to be absorbed by the connective tissue sheath, proximal outer root sheath, and hair bulb of the follicles. The research demonstrated that taurine promoted hair survival and counteracted the negative effects of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, which is known to inhibit hair growth and trigger fibrotic processes. This suggested that taurine had protective properties that could enhance hair growth and survival in vitro.
