TLDR The method could improve vitiligo treatment by effectively delivering therapy to hair follicles.
The study aimed to develop a method for delivering the photosensitizer "Ammi majus fructuum furocumarines" (AMFF) into hair follicles using calcium carbonate particles, followed by UVA irradiation. The method was tested on 3 healthy volunteers, and the results showed successful filling of hair follicles with the particles, confirmed by optical coherence tomography and confocal laser scanning microscopy. Dermatoscopic examination revealed that UVA exposure led to significant pigment accumulation at the sites of AMFF administration. The study concluded that this targeted delivery method could enhance photochemical therapy for conditions like vitiligo.
