TLDR Microcapsules and effervescent tablets make insect lipids easier to consume.
The study developed microcapsules and effervescent tablets containing policosanol derived from Ericerus pela insect wax to improve taste, solubility, and bioavailability. Using optimized conditions, the microcapsules achieved a 92.09% encapsulation efficiency and a 61.67% powder yield, with rapid dispersion in water and effective release in simulated stomach fluid. Effervescent tablets made from these microcapsules disintegrated quickly, providing a fizzy taste and meeting pharmacopoeia standards. The study highlights the importance of processing conditions in enhancing the delivery and consumer appeal of functional lipid products, offering a novel strategy for utilizing insect lipids in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and healthcare products.
