TLDR Steroid hormones are vital for body functions and disease management.
Steroid hormones play a crucial role in regulating various body functions, from prenatal growth to cognitive abilities, and are involved in the onset and progression of numerous diseases. They are categorized into five types: glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, male hormones, female estrogens, and progesterone, based on their chemical structure and biological functions. This review highlights the importance of understanding the chemical structure and classification of steroid hormones to elucidate their diverse biological effects. It emphasizes the need for further research to fill gaps in current knowledge, which could enhance clinical practices and treatment strategies, ultimately improving health outcomes across different populations.
