TLDR PRGF treatments increased hair number and thickness in people with hair loss, with more injections leading to better results.
The study from 2019 examined the impact of Plasma Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF) on androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 13 patients. Participants were divided into two groups, with one receiving a single PRGF injection and the other receiving three injections over three months. Results indicated that both groups saw improvements in hair number and thickness, with the single injection group experiencing a 9-54% increase in hair number and an 11-76% increase in hair thickness, while the three-injection group saw an average increase of 211% in hair number and 221% in hair thickness. No serious adverse effects were reported, though some minor, self-limited side effects like edema, itching, and erythema occurred, resolving within 24 hours. The study concluded that PRGF is a promising treatment for AGA, but highlighted the need for further research with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods to establish a standardized treatment protocol.

The conversation discusses the potential of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, like oleic and linoleic acid, as an additional treatment for hair loss, which may inhibit the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to DHT and promote hair growth. Users humorously suggest using oils topically and discuss other hair loss treatments, but the main focus is on the science behind fatty acids and their role in hair health.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
