Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Presenting With Homonymous Hemianopia

    TLDR Lupus can cause unusual vision problems, so it's important to consider it in such cases.
    This paper presents a case of a 42-year-old woman whose initial manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) was homonymous hemianopia, a rare occurrence. The patient experienced blurry vision, hematemesis, hematuria, and mucocutaneous bleeding, leading to a diagnosis of SLE confirmed by positive antinuclear and anti-double-stranded DNA antibodies. Neurological involvement in SLE, such as neuro-ophthalmological issues, is significant due to its impact on survival. The patient's condition was managed with methylprednisolone, prednisolone, and cyclophosphamide, resulting in partial visual recovery. This case highlights the importance of considering lupus cerebritis in patients with unusual visual symptoms.
