TLDR Women with PCOS have lower amylin levels, which are not related to their body weight.
In a 2018 study involving 40 polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients and 40 healthy women matched by BMI, it was discovered that PCOS patients had significantly higher ovarian volumes, Ferriman-Gallwey scores, and testosterone levels, but notably lower serum amylin levels, regardless of their BMI. Amylin levels were also found to be negatively correlated with Ferriman-Gallwey scores and ovarian volume. However, serum preptin levels were similar between the two groups. The research suggests that PCOS may be associated with an impairment in the elevation of serum amylin in response to impaired glucose metabolism, highlighting the need for further investigation into the relationship between these peptides and PCOS.
