TLDR Salicylate helps wounds heal without scarring in mice.
The study investigates the effects of salicylate, an anti-inflammatory drug, on wound healing in mice. It was found that salicylate activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), leading to actin cable formation and complete wound regeneration in embryonic day 14 (E14) mouse fetuses, where scarring would typically occur. In adult mice, salicylate promoted epithelialization, enhanced contraction of the panniculus carnosus muscle, and inhibited scar formation. These findings suggest that salicylate administration immediately after injury could prevent scarring by mimicking the regenerative wound healing pattern observed in embryos.
