TLDR The method is effective for evaluating hair loss treatments quickly and affordably.
The study, conducted at IPclin - Instituto de Pesquisa Clínica Integrada in Brazil, aimed to validate a quantitative method for evaluating the effectiveness of hair loss treatments. The method involved comparing standardized photographs taken before and after treatments, analyzed by software that calculates the area of hair loss in square pixels. This calculation is based on the contrast between bright (hair loss) and dark (normal hair) regions of the scalp. The method was found to be effective for assessing the affected area in patients with both initial and advanced degrees of hair loss. The study concluded that this method allows for the evaluation of the effectiveness of various types of treatments for telogen effluvium and androgenetic alopecia in a rapid, straightforward, and cost-effective manner.
