TLDR Male and female Gynostemma longipes plants have significant chemical differences.
The study on Gynostemma longipes, a traditional Chinese medicinal plant, revealed significant chemical differences between male and female plants, as well as among different plant parts. Using advanced analytical techniques, researchers identified 2,196 metabolites, with flavonoids, terpenoids, and alkaloids being the primary active components. The analysis showed strong clustering of samples from identical parts of male and female plants, with a high variance explained by the first principal component. The study provides a foundation for assessing the quality of this medicinal material and selecting superior varieties.
