TLDR The rare cliff plant Oresitrophe rupifraga has diverse metabolites, with leaves rich in phenolic acids and rhizomes and bulblets high in terpenoids, aiding its growth and potential use.
This study on the rare cliff plant Oresitrophe rupifraga Bunge, exclusive to China, identified 1965 different metabolites using a targeted metabolomics approach. Significant differences were found between the aboveground and underground metabolites, with specific comparisons revealing differential expression of hundreds of metabolites between bulblets, leaves, and rhizomes. Leaves were richer in phenolic acids, while rhizomes and bulblets contained more terpenoids. KEGG pathway analysis linked these metabolites to metabolic pathways affecting the plant's growth and development. These findings offer insights into the plant's traits and provide a foundation for its cultivation and utilization.
