Puberty in Boys: Correlation of Plasma Levels of Gonadotropins, Androgens, Estrogens, and Progestins

TLDR Hormone levels change during puberty, leading to physical developments like pubic hair and voice changes.
The study followed 43 boys over 4 years during puberty to analyze the changes in serum concentrations of various hormones. It found that dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHAS) levels rose early in puberty, while progesterone (P) and androstenedione (A) increased later. Estrone (E1) levels reached adult levels by age 12, DHAS and estradiol (E2) by age 13, and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHA), P, 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OH-P), and A after age 15. Significant hormonal changes were associated with physical developments such as pubic hair, voice change, and genital growth, with testosterone levels increasing alongside these changes.
