TLDR PRP injections improve knee function better than other treatments for osteoarthritis.
This review examines the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for knee osteoarthritis (OA), emphasizing its regenerative and anti-inflammatory benefits. PRP therapy is noted for reducing pain and improving knee function by promoting tissue repair and cartilage regeneration. It offers a minimally invasive alternative to surgery with a low risk of immune rejection. The review analyzed 180 titles and abstracts, including 105 references, to evaluate PRP's effectiveness compared to other treatments. PRP has applications beyond knee OA, such as in chronic tendinitis, ligament injuries, and dermatological uses like skin rejuvenation and hair restoration. Despite some inconsistent outcomes due to varying preparation methods, PRP is generally considered safe and effective, providing a promising alternative for managing OA symptoms and potentially delaying knee arthroplasty.
