TLDR Platelet-rich plasma can improve erectile function in older individuals by reducing prostate enlargement.
The study investigated the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on erectile dysfunction (ED) in aged rats, aiming to restore erectile function (EF) under geriatric conditions. Male rats were divided into young and aged groups, with the aged group receiving intracavernous PRP or saline. Results showed that PRP treatment significantly improved EF parameters in aged-ED rats by reducing prostate hyperplasia and enhancing neural stability. Histological and ultrastructural analyses revealed improvements in the dorsal artery, penile nerve, and corpus cavernosum, with increased expression of α-smooth muscle actin and neurofilament-H. The study concluded that PRP is a safe, novel, and cost-effective strategy for EF restoration in geriatric patients.
