TLDR Platelet-rich plasma can help heal difficult gastrointestinal fistulas after surgery.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), derived from the patient's own blood, has shown promise in treating postoperative anastomotic fistulas of the gastrointestinal tract, particularly when conservative therapies have failed. The direct injection of PRP gel into the fistulas facilitates tissue regeneration and promotes closure, offering a potential therapeutic advantage in these challenging cases.
