TLDR Injecting platelet-rich plasma into the muscle layer improves intestinal healing and reduces adhesions.
The study investigated the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on intestinal anastomosis regeneration in 81 rabbits, comparing two application methods: injection into the muscle layer and soaking in the intestinal wall. Results indicated that both PRP treatments improved regeneration compared to the control group, as evidenced by better histological and morphometric outcomes, including reduced inflammatory infiltrate, increased fibroblast proliferation, neo-angiogenesis, and collagen deposition. PRP soaking led to more adhesions, while PRP injection reduced adhesion development. The rupture strength of anastomoses was higher in PRP-treated groups. The study concluded that PRP injection into the muscular layer was more effective in reducing adhesions, but further research was needed to determine the optimal application method for enhancing intestinal anastomosis regeneration.
