TLDR Understanding proteins linked to PCOS symptoms can improve diagnosis and treatment.
The review discussed the involvement of proteins in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a disorder affecting 6.5-18% of women of reproductive age, characterized by symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, obesity, insulin resistance, hirsutism, acne, and alopecia. It highlighted the role of hyperandrogenism in these symptoms and emphasized the need for further research on proteins related to PCOS symptoms. Understanding these proteins could improve the biochemical, physiological, and immunological understanding of PCOS, aiding in the identification of diagnostic biomarkers and enhancing therapeutic approaches.
