TLDR Artificial skin can heal wounds without scars and regenerate hair, oil, and sweat glands.
The study introduces a novel regeneration-directing artificial skin (RDAS) system designed to enhance skin rehabilitation by preventing disfiguring scars and promoting the regeneration of functional appendages. This system utilizes multi-layered hydrogels that mimic natural skin matrices and employs programmable DNA components to guide the regenerative process without the need for exogenous cell transplantation. The RDAS effectively minimizes tissue fibrosis, enabling rapid scarless wound repair and the regeneration of hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands. This cell-free antiscarring therapeutic strategy shows promise for future clinical applications and burn rehabilitation.
