TLDR COVID-19 can cause temporary hair loss in some patients, affecting their quality of life.
The review discusses the impact of COVID-19 on various body systems, including the skin, and highlights the occurrence of post-COVID-19 syndrome in some patients. One of the non-respiratory sequelae of this syndrome is hair loss, observed in approximately 20% of post-COVID-19 patients. This hair loss could be due to acute telogen effluvium (TE), a diffuse, non-scarring hair loss that typically lasts about 6 months. The causes of acute TE include severe systemic febrile illness, pregnancy, restrictive diets, severe stress, and various drugs. However, no study has yet determined the relationship of TE in those who have had COVID-19. This condition significantly affects patients' quality of life, often leading to loss of confidence and low self-esteem.
