TLDR Women with PCOS in Bangladesh face significant mental health issues, especially in rural areas.
The study investigates the psychological impacts of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) among 212 reproductive-aged women in Bangladesh, highlighting significant mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, and insomnia. Using the Rotterdam criteria, it was found that 50.9% of participants had PCOS, with high rates of psychological disorders among them. Rural women were more likely to meet the criteria for PCOS and experienced higher anxiety and insomnia. The study emphasizes the need for comprehensive mental health assessments for women with PCOS, as addressing both physical and psychological aspects is crucial for improving their overall well-being and quality of life. Relationship status and BMI were identified as predictive factors for mental health outcomes.
