TLDR Women with PCOS in Bangladesh face significant mental health issues, especially in rural areas.
The study investigated the prevalence and psychological impact of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) among 212 reproductive-aged women in Bangladesh, revealing that 50.9% were diagnosed with PCOS. It found significant rates of depression (51.4%), anxiety (62.3%), stress (46.7%), and insomnia (53.3%) among these women, with rural participants experiencing higher anxiety and insomnia. The study underscores the need for comprehensive mental health assessments and interventions, particularly in rural areas, to address both the physical and psychological aspects of PCOS, thereby improving the overall well-being and quality of life for affected women. Factors such as relationship status and BMI were identified as predictors of mental health outcomes.
