TLDR PCOS increases sexual pain and distress in infertile Iranian women.
The study examined the impact of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) on sexual dysfunction and distress in 190 Iranian women with infertility, including 103 with PCOS. It found that PCOS exacerbates sexual distress, particularly related to sexual pain, even after accounting for depression and anxiety. Women with PCOS experienced greater sexual distress compared to those without, highlighting the moderating role of PCOS. The study concludes that PCOS increases susceptibility to sexual distress due to heightened sexual pain, emphasizing the need for further research into the physiological, psychological, and relational aspects of this issue in infertile women with PCOS. Limitations include the study's cross-sectional nature and small sample size.
