TLDR Sonidegib is effective and safe for treating advanced basal cell carcinoma, but biopsies are needed to confirm tumor clearance.
In a real-world study of Chinese patients with locally advanced basal cell carcinoma (laBCC), sonidegib demonstrated a clinically meaningful response and a favorable safety profile. However, clinical and dermoscopic evaluations often resulted in false positives due to posttreatment changes, highlighting the necessity of pathological biopsy to confirm tumor clearance. The study suggests that advanced noninvasive imaging techniques, such as reflectance confocal microscopy, could enhance monitoring. It also calls for prospective studies with longer follow-up to further validate these findings.
