TLDR Women with PCOS are more vulnerable to severe COVID-19 and related health issues.
The study investigates the impact of past COVID-19 infections on women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), highlighting that these women are more susceptible to severe COVID-19 due to hormonal imbalances, metabolic disorders, and immune dysfunctions. COVID-19 exacerbates insulin resistance and hyperglycemia, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, which is already prevalent in 30-70% of women with PCOS. The virus also affects ovarian function and hormonal balance, potentially leading to menstrual irregularities. Effective management of PCOS and related endocrine disorders is crucial for women recovering from COVID-19, emphasizing the need for regular monitoring and a healthy lifestyle to mitigate severe outcomes.
