TLDR People with palmoplantar pustulosis, especially with bone issues, have different mouth bacteria compared to healthy people.
The retrospective study analyzed the salivary microbiome of 12 patients with palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) and 10 healthy controls, finding significant differences in bacterial composition. PPP patients had lower levels of Proteobacteria and Haemophilus and higher levels of Prevotella, with these differences being more pronounced in patients with pustulotic arthro-osteosis (PAO). The study, which utilized 16S rRNA gene sequencing and UniFrac distance analysis, concluded that PPP patients exhibit oral dysbiosis, especially those with PAO.
