Determinants of Occipital Involvement in Males and Females with Pattern Hair Loss: A Retrospective Study

    Shadi Zari
TLDR Females with pattern hair loss have more occipital involvement than males.
This retrospective study of 1993 adults (1000 males, 993 females) with pattern hair loss (PHL) found that occipital involvement, defined as >10% thin hairs in the occipital region, was present in 23.8% of participants. The study revealed that females had a significantly higher prevalence of occipital involvement (35.6%) compared to males with early PHL (12.1%). These findings highlight the importance of considering gender and disease severity in understanding PHL progression. The study suggests that future research should focus on validating these results to enhance therapeutic and surgical strategies for PHL.
