TLDR Stand-alone PRP therapy effectively increases hair density for hair loss treatment.
This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the effectiveness of stand-alone platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy versus PRP combined with other treatments for androgenic alopecia (AGA). Analyzing data from 9 studies involving 230 individuals, the study found that both stand-alone PRP and PRP combination therapies significantly increased hair density compared to placebo, with mean differences (MD) of 25.39 and 34.38, respectively. However, the results did not justify the superiority of PRP-combined therapy over stand-alone PRP. The study concludes that stand-alone PRP therapy should be included in treatment protocols for AGA, while further research is needed to validate the efficacy of combination therapies.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.

The conversation is about the effectiveness of finasteride (fin) in preventing hair loss after a hair transplant. Some users have experienced hair thinning and loss after stopping finasteride, while others have had success with finasteride and minoxidil (min) in maintaining their transplanted hair. The general consensus is that finasteride is important for younger patients to prevent further hair loss.
